Aortic root surgery: from valve sparing to 'spare and plasty'.
In the last decade, the aortic root has been receiving increasing attention with the aim of preserving as much as possible a proper function of the natural aortic valve on one hand, and to stabilise its diameter to avoid any further progressive root dilatation on the other hand. In this issue of the journal, two aspects have been raised over the optimal treatment of the pathology of the aortic ...

key aspects for successful completion of the Cox maze III ’cut-and-sew’ procedure, I started to perform it by adding the transection of the SVC. This modification from the original technique can be termed as mini-partial heart autotransplantation. And this is just the point that I want to emphasize in this comment. Once the entire LA has been circumferentially divided and the SVC sectioned, the...
متن کاملPartial cardiac autotransplantation with a concomitant mitral valve, aortic valve replacement and tricuspid plasty.
We describe a case with left atrial volume reduction of a giant left atrium, treated successfully by partial cardiac autotransplantation, concomitant mitral and aortic valve replacement, and tricuspid valve plasty. We obtained good results at the 1-year follow-up.
متن کاملEndoventricular circular patch plasty with aortic valve replacement for post-infarction cardiac rupture complicated with aortic valve stenosis: case report.
Cardiac rupture after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in patients with aortic valve stenosis (AS) is uncommon and only 2 survival cases after surgery have been reported to date. The present patient, a 69-year-old woman with aortic valve stenosis (AS), suffered an acute myocardial infarction and despite a successful baloon angioplasty to the proximal left anterior descending artery, the condit...
متن کاملA rare case of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis complicated with multiple fistula to peri aortic structure
Multiple aorto-cardiac cavity communications is very rare but important complication of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis. The case below illustrates multiple aorto-cardiac cavity fistula formation following prostethic aortic valve endocarditis presented with slowly progressive symptoms of heart failure. A brief review of surgical reconstruction and the existing literature are presented, i...
